Veterinary Technologist Week

Every year the MVTA writes a letter to the government of Manitoba asking them to proclaim the second week in October as Veterinary Technologist Week in Manitoba. The government has recognized our profession and granted our request since 2015.

Veterinary Technologist Week Proclamation
Whereas Veterinary Technologists are trained professionals who are an important component of the veterinary team that provides animal health, medical and surgical care; and whereas in Manitoba, 364 Veterinary Technologists registered by the Manitoba Veterinary Medical Association and members of the Manitoba Animal Health Technologists Association (MAHTA) provide the highest level of professional care to all animals; and whereas Veterinary Technologists work in a wide variety of areas in the animal care field such as clinics and laboratories pharaceutical supply companies, insurance companies, livestock facilities, zoos, food animal production and food safety; and whereas MAHTA aims to maintain high standards and promotes professional development through continuing education to its members; and whereas Veterinary Technologist Week serves to increase public awareness of the Veterinary Technology profession and to encourage people to choose careers in the animal care field; and whereas Manitoba is proud to recognize the 364 Veterinary Technologists in Manitoba. NOW THEREFORE LET IT BE KNOWN THAT I, Ralph Eichler, Minister of Manitoba Agriculture in the Province of Manitoba, do hereby Proclaim October 16 – 22 as: Veterinary Technologists Week in Manitoba.

Veterinary Technologist Week Proclamation
Whereas Veterinary Technologists are animal health professionals who are an integral part of the veterinary field; and whereas there are more than 300 registered Veterinary Technologists in the province of Manitoba, regulated by the Manitoba Animal Health Technologists Association to provide the highest level of professional care to all animals; and whereas the promotion of animal health, welfare and safety are important to the citizens of Manitoba; and greater recognition of the supporting skills provided by Veterinary Technologists will enable them to better serve the interests of the public through the enhancement of animal care; and whereas it is the aim of Veterinary Technologist Week to increase awareness of the profession of Veterinary Technology and to encourage young people to choose careers in the field of skilled animal care. NOW THEREFORE LET IT BE KNOWN THAT I, Ron Kostyshyn, Minister of Manitoba Agriculture, Food and Rural Development, in the Province of Manitoba, do hereby proclaim October 11 – 17, 2015 as Veterinary Technologist Week in Manitoba.
