Self-Assessment for
RVTs

MVTA Self-Assessment Checklist
Welcome to the Manitoba Veterinary Technologists Association (MVTA) Self-Assessment Checklist for Registered Veterinary Technologists (RVTs). This tool is designed to help RVTs reflect on their current skills, identify areas for further growth, and support their ongoing professional development as an RVT. The tasks included in this assessment are drawn directly from the MVMA Delegation of Veterinary Tasks Policy to ensure alignment with current regulatory expectations.
We encourage all members to revisit this self-assessment regularly—such as before starting a new job, when preparing for a performance review, or when requesting funding for continuing education.
By using this checklist as a resource throughout your career, you can track your progress, set meaningful goals, and engage in informed discussions with your supervisors and mentors about training and educational opportunities. Regular self-assessment supports career growth, fosters self-awareness, and helps ensure safe, effective veterinary care through ongoing learning and collaboration within the veterinary team.
PLEASE NOTE: This checklist is designed for RVTs who have graduated and are working in a clinical setting. We are currently working on a Self-Assessment Checklist for students that are currently enrolled in a CVMA Accredited Program. Stay tuned!
